No Oars, Only Sails: All You Need Is Love Ephesians 3:16-21

1. Be Strengthened: Paul’s second prayer for the Ephesians (3:16-19) is remarkably similar to his first (1:17-19). Read these prayers back to back and compare them. What is the role of the “Spirit” in both prayers? How is “knowing” and “knowledge” important to both? Have you ever prayed for yourself or others for spiritual power to know and experience the things of God more deeply?

2. To Know Love: Do you find it easy to believe that God loves you? Are there any specific things that cause you to doubt it? Conversely, can you remember a situation when you were very confident of His love? How would a continual awareness of this measureless love change you (1 John 3:1-3)?

3. Be Filled With Fullness: Do you agree with the following statement? “An increasing capacity to know and believe the love of God is central to Christian maturity.” Based on this criteria, how would you assess your Christian maturity? Read the following descriptions of God’s boundless nature and love for you (Job 11:7-9; Psa. 103:11-12; Rom. 8:35-39) and how can these help you grow?

4. Christ’s Love Controls Us: Jonathan taught us this week that being sent to make disciples is equivalent to being sent to love. How does this logic relate to Paul’s commissioning words in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, ‘Christ’s love controls us’? What does it mean to you to have Christ’s love ‘control’ you, and how does 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 help you answer that question?
